Get your sexy on with Nutella

There’s something seductive about the chocolate hazelnut spread, Nutella. Just say it, Nutellaaaaahhhhh. It’s no wonder the LA Times focused on the stuff for its Valentine’s edition food section.

Luckily I’d gotten my Nutella fix before seeing the Times’ centerpiece on Wednesday. Who knows how long ago (we’re talking 2 years probably), I saw Giada de Laurentiis envelop Nutella in wonton squares and then fry them golden brown. She called them chocolate-hazelnut ravioli, but she would, of course.

For no good reason, it took me until this Monday to make these luscious little pockets of chocolate. They are indeed as amazing as you’d want deep fried Nutella to be.

If you’re not good at making desserts — or even if you are — and you want to make an impression on Feb. 14 — or any day — this recipe is as easy as your Valentine will be after trying one.

Just buy a jar of Nutella and a package of wonton wrappers, which you can get at any Asian market or probably the Asian section of a good local grocery store. Put about a tablespoon of Nutella in the center of the square, wet the edges of the wonton (we used water, Giada used beaten egg), then fold into any shape, triangle being the simplest. We popped em into a FryDaddy three at a time, but you can fry them easily as you would otherwise in a pan of vegetable oil about two inches deep. Carefully flip them over and remove with a slotted spoon when both sides are beautifully golden. Transfer to a paper towel and let them cool for a good while.

Valentine’s is not the day to lose feeling in your tongue…

So I definitely remade these treats last night for my friend Jamie and I. Instead of the triangle, however, I brought all for ends up to the middle and sealed them. They were a little more difficult to eat, but the wonton-nutella ratio was a bit better. In addition, I added apricot and strawberry jam to the nutella in a couple. Mmmm mmm good!

I think I saw her making these on Oprah and really wanted to try them then! Sounds simple and delicious. Lovely pics! :)
